 Where Nature & Nurture Meet

About Us

Hello, we are Hamish and Robyn. We both absolutely love farming, and have since we were kids. We are fortunate enough to spend every day on Black Pond Farm. To us, we are in our personal playground every day. We are a small family run business, and so 99% of the tasks on the farm are completed by us.

We both grew up on and around farms and both of us have always wanted to own a farm and grow the highest quality products in the most sustainable way.

Hamish grew up on dairy farms, and after finishing school worked and studied in the farming industry before pursuing a career as a heavy automotive diesel engineer.

Robyn’s grandparents were beef and lamb farmers and she had always longed to be a farmher. Robyn studied business studies at Waikato University and then worked in the corporate world until she and Hamish had the opportunity to own Black Pond Farm.

We believe we are very privileged to be the current custodians of Black Pond Farm. We believe we have a responsibility to restore and protect our total farm environment and contribute to a positive future for the generations to come.

NAU MAI, HAERE MAI

You’ve heard the saying ‘nature knows best’

At Black Pond Farm, this is the philosophy we live by. It is reflected in the way we care for our land and nurture our animals. And it is the difference that you will taste in our exceptional free range, grass-fed beef.

Certified, organically grown, holistic and wholesome, 100% in tune with nature.

We don’t just farm the land, we love it

We’re a small, family-owned operation focused on quality; taking the time to do the right thing as custodians of the land.

With nature taking the lead we observe and listen. Then we support and cultivate, working with the seasons to achieve a balanced, sustainable, fully certified organic, healthy and happy farm environment.

Farm to fork, from our family to yours

Now more than ever it’s important to know where your food comes from, and how it got to your table. We are fully on board with keeping it local, small-scale and 100% transparent.

If it carries the Black Pond Farm name, you can be sure it’s safe, authentic and premium: certified, organically-grown restaurant-quality meat that is sustainably and ethically produced.

A lighter hand, for a brighter future

We want our slice of Aotearoa to be the best it can be for future generations to enjoy. To this end, 30 of our 106 hectares is in covenanted bush, protected by QEII.

Our main bush areas are over 100 years old, and include many mature native trees and an abundance of bird life. We’ve fenced off our guts and gullies and have planted these out in native trees too. And we’re doing our bit to eliminate noxious weeds and pests, with great results, and flourishing flora and fauna.
