Every acre of Black Pond Farm is precious to us

Our cattle live a great life here! With lush green grass on nutritious soil, clear clean spring water and gentle rolling paddocks, it’s no wonder.

Plus, we are constantly looking for ways to enhance our patch of paradise, with organic farming practices, enriched biodiversity, covenanted bush, native tree plantings and protected waterways.

The secret lies in the soil

We know that to produce the best quality, best tasting beef, the health of the land must come first. And it starts below ground, with the close and careful monitoring of our soil ecology. This is a complex natural system, requiring delicate handling, regular testing and fastidious maintenance.

We understand the dynamics of our soil and use a custom-crafted mix of organic fertilisers to reactivate, stimulate and balance for optimal fertility.

Pasture that is unsurpassed

Grass is what powers our herd, so it’s a major focus for us. We grow 15-20 different pasturage-plant types on Black Pond Farm. Each type shoots its roots to a different depth and responds to different temperature and moisture levels.

We allow 45-60 days between grazings, so the pasture can regenerate between times. This means we can supply quality food to our cattle year-round – and we’re safeguarded against the unpredictability of the weather.
